A Gift in Your Will

Here is specific language to use when you create a gift in your will (a bequest) that will provide Christ’s teachings for future generations. There is no minimum amount for giving a bequest—all gifts are welcomed and appreciated. Please let us know when you name Boston Church of Christ in your will so that we can respect your wishes.

A gift in your will--simple bequest:

“I irrevocably give, devise, and bequeath to Boston Church of Christ, Tax ID #04-2494881, 214 Concord Street, Framingham, MA 01702, the sum of $__________ [or a description of a specific asset], for the benefit of Boston Church of Christ to be used for the following purpose: [state the purpose—e.g., benevolence fund, unrestricted, missions].  If at any time in the judgment of the trustees of the Boston Church of Christ it is impossible or impracticable to carry out exactly the designated purpose, they shall determine an alternative purpose closest to the designated purpose.”

A gift in your will for a residuary bequest:

Residuary Bequests are made when you intend to leave the residue portion of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied.  For example:

“All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I irrevocably give to Boston Church of Christ, Tax ID #04-2494881, 214 Concord Street, Framingham, MA 01702, for its general purpose.”

A gift in your will for contingency bequest:

Contingency bequests allow you to leave a portion of your estate to a particular charity if your named beneficiary does not survive you.  Here is an example:

“I devise and bequeath the residue of the property, real and personal and wherever situated, owned by me at my death, to (name of beneficiary), if (she/he) survives me.  If (name of beneficiary) does not survive me, I irrevocably devise and bequeath my residuary estate to Boston Church of Christ, Tax ID #04-2494881, 214 Concord Street, Framingham, MA 01702 for its [general purposes or a specific purpose you request].”

Other types of bequests:

You can leave a legacy for Boston Church of Christ the “beneficiary” of your Individual Retirement Account (IRA or 401[K]) or your Life Insurance Policy.  The “beneficiary” should be noted as in the “beneficiary” designation in your policy.  Please let us know when you have done this so that we may acknowledge your generosity.

buckholz”Beth and I have been inspired to think about our legacy and how we can best help the church.  This church has been transformed to be sensitive to each generation, to care about the community, and to think about the future generations.  We’ve decided to give 10 percent of our estate to the Boston Church of Christ and related organization like Hope worldwide in our will.  We pray that the money will be used for younger people and fostering the gospel around the world.”
